Shalkido’s Father Speaks Out
Shalkido’s father, Stephen Mungai, has opened up about the difficult family dynamics he’s faced since the heartbreaking loss of his son. He shared that he hasn’t seen the late musician’s mother in over twenty years.
On Wednesday, October 9, 2025, he spoke candidly about how they lost touch back in 2001 and haven’t crossed paths in person since then.
“Kutoka 2001, sijawai ona mama Shalkido na macho yangu hivi. Hata Shalkido alikua ananiuliza, “Mommy ako wapi?” Nilimwambia, “Labda tuende kwa station fulani tumtafute,” he said.
The heartbroken father shared the immense sorrow of losing his only son, expressing how profoundly the loss has impacted him and the entire family. “Hiyo mambo ya Shalkido imenigonga sana. Sina mtoto mwingine, just imagine. Kwa sasa, shosho hana hali mbaya. Hata ni yeye aliniamsha,” he shared.
Currently residing in Ruiru, the father mentioned that this is where the family is gathering for prayers and mourning the artist’s death. He also noted that they haven’t finalized the burial plans yet, saying, “Shalkido alizaliwa, niliwachiwa huko pale Ruiru. Hapo ndio tunafanyia maombolezi, sijui mahali tutamzika.”
Shalkido’s father shared that he’s never actually met the late musician’s wife and child, even though he’s heard stories about them from other people.
“Naskianga tu ako na bibi na mtoto, sijawai waona na macho yangu. Niko na mpango, tukionana tutapangana,” he said. He noted that while he had been aware of his son’s family, they had never come into direct contact.
The emotional revelation from the father comes just days after the tragic passing of Shalkido, a member of the well-known Gengetone group Sailors Gang. He lost his life in a devastating road accident that resulted in severe head injuries, internal bleeding, and broken bones.
Shalkido was rushed to the ICU at Kenyatta University Hospital, but sadly, he was later declared brain dead before succumbing to his injuries. His untimely death has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with many remembering him as a gifted young artist who was on the path to reviving his music career.
As the family navigates the difficult process of making funeral arrangements, his father expresses that this loss has created an everlasting void in his life. “Sijawai patana nao,” he said softly, reflecting on the years of separation from his son’s family and the heartache of losing him before they had a chance to reconnect.
