ODM MP’s House Burnt Down
Rangwe MP Lilian Gogo is calling on law enforcement to act quickly against those who set her home ablaze in East Gem Ward on the night of Friday, October 17.
The fire broke out while she was away, causing damage estimated in the millions.
Authorities are still looking into how the fire started, and thankfully, no one was home at the time.
Rangwe Police Commander Magdaline Chebet pointed to a possible electrical fault as the fire’s cause.
“The area where her house is located experienced a power blackout when the fire started… We found neighbors gathered at the scene, but they couldn’t get into the compound because the gate was locked,” the police reported.
Chebet added that officers who arrived at the scene had to force their way in and tried to put out the flames using water from a borehole.
Gogo, while speaking after the incident, explained that she was in Kisumu for Raila Odinga’s funeral when she received news of the fire.
“I was in Kisumu because of the ongoing funeral programs of Raila Odinga. I am equally confused about what happened,” she said.
She urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the situation and to apprehend those believed to be behind the arson.
As per police reports, Gogo had earlier asked for extra security measures.
The police have now launched an investigation into the incident.
They are trying to determine if it was caused by an accidental electrical fault or if it was a deliberate attack.
Gogo is among the ODM leaders gathered in Kisumu, where the community is paying their final respects to their late leader.
Raila’s body was brought to the Mamboleo grounds, allowing the public to pay tribute to the departed leader.
The body arrived in Kisumu on Saturday morning, October 18, and was taken to the grounds for the viewing ceremony.
Raila, who passed away while receiving treatment in India on October 19, is set to be buried on Sunday, October 19.
He will be laid to rest at Kang’o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, near the mausoleum that holds the grave of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, his father.
