KRA Sets June 2025 Deadline for Fuel Stations to Adopt Real-Time eTIMS System
The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced that all petrol station operators nationwide need to fully implement the new eTIMS Fuel Station System by June 30, 2025.
In a public notice released on Friday, June 27, KRA clarified that this system will enable real-time tracking of fuel transactions from the point of sale directly to its central servers.
“The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is implementing the eTIMS Fuel Station System, which is an eTIMS solution for the fuel sector that enables real-time seamless invoicing for every sale integrating with KRA through a forecourt controller and existing point of sale,” the statement read.
The new integration will ensure that every sale at the pump is recorded digitally and sent straight to the tax authority, which will greatly minimize the chances of underreporting.
KRA has stated that this integration is mandatory and needs to be implemented by the end of June.
“We wish to remind retailers of petroleum products of the requirement to implement the eTIMS Fuel Station System for all the retail outlets by 30th June, 2025.
“KRA further advises fuel station owners that they can choose to integrate by themselves where there is technical capacity or work with a KRA-certified fuel solution integrator,” the notice added.
Just a week after the KRA rolled out a more straightforward PAYE (Pay As You Earn) return filing and payment process, they made another announcement.
On Monday, June 23, the Commissioner for the Micro and Small Taxpayers Department shared that this new system is part of their ongoing efforts to improve tax procedures based on feedback from taxpayers.
The KRA emphasized that this streamlined process aims to benefit everyone, including those in the public sector, private companies, and not-for-profit organizations.
“The simplified process facilitates employers to file returns relevant to their categories of employees,” KRA stated.
KRA mentioned that the system is designed to work smoothly with the government’s human resource platforms, such as IFMIS and CBK. This integration will make it easier to file and pay PAYE, the Affordable Housing Levy, the NITA Levy, and other deductions related to labor.
Additionally, KRA has announced that the complete rollout of the new Excel-based PAYE return system is set to begin on July 1, 2025.
