Fred Matiang’i Eyes 2027 Presidency with Focus on Service, Not Revenge
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i insists that he has no political grudges to settle as he aims for the presidency in the 2027 General Election.
He emphasizes that his only goal is to serve the nation and help it overcome the current challenges facing Kenyans. Dr. Matiang’i believes he is the ideal candidate to take on this responsibility and restore the country’s reputation as an economic powerhouse.
“If this country wants seriousness and delivery of services, I am one of the candidates they should look at very carefully,” he told K24 on Monday.
“I have no scores to settle with anyone…I have no political debts…I am here for only one purpose – making the contribution to fix the challenges that face my country and to go forward.”
The former chief of staff believes that Kenya is brimming with potential, thanks to its abundant resources and a well-educated young population. He thinks that turning the nation around won’t be too tough, even if it might get a bit complicated at times.
“Countries go through situations like we are going through right now. The worst thing that can happen to all of us is to lose hope in our country, to sometimes feel discouraged,” he said.
“These circumstances are meant to educate us and make us better people. We are a resilient country and this is what gives me hope and pride. Kenya has a great capacity and we will rise again. Our future will be better.”
He brushed aside the rumors swirling about disagreements within the opposition regarding who will be their chosen candidate, mentioning that he’ll soon reveal which party he plans to run for the presidency with.
Matiang’i has teamed up with some heavyweights in the political arena, including party leaders like Martha Karua from the People’s Liberation Party, Eugene Wamalwa of DAP-K, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from the Democracy for Citizens Party.
Also in the mix are Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi.
Together, they’ve committed to engaging in thoughtful discussions to devise a strong strategy aimed at unseating President William Ruto in the upcoming 2027 elections.
