A woman who stands accused of abducting a six-year-old boy back in May 2025 has told an Eldoret Court that she purchased the child for Ksh.30,500 from someone who was willing to sell, as she is unable to have children of her own.
While appearing before Eldoret Principal Magistrate Cheronoh Kesse, Monicah Kwamboka pleaded with the court to let her go so she could bring in the woman who sold her the first grader.

The suspect admitted to the crime, clarifying that the boy is not her biological son, but she did buy him from a woman who is connected to her through her aunt.
Kwamboka shared with the court that her struggles began after the heartbreaking loss of her first-born child, and since then, she hasn’t been able to conceive again, even after remarrying.

She mentioned that it was her aunt who set up a meeting between her and a buyer from Langas estate in Eldoret city.

According to the court documents, the child was taken on May 16, 2024, in Langas, which is an informal settlement in Uasin Gishu county.

During the proceedings at the Eldoret law court, the boy’s mother, Abscondita Azenga, couldn’t hold back her tears as she recounted her year-long search for her missing son, which had been in vain.

Azenga, who is a mother to three children, said she received a call from the Langas police station telling her to come in. When she arrived, they showed her a photograph of a boy and asked if she recognized him, to which she confirmed that it was indeed her lost child.
The prosecution has therefore requested the court to order a DNA test for both the accused and the biological mother of the minor, in order to establish maternity.

The Principal Magistrate has instructed that the minor be placed in a private rescue center situated in Pioneer estate, on the outskirts of Eldoret city.

Additionally, she has mandated that DNA tests for both women be carried out at the government chemist in Kisumu County this Friday.

The court has also ordered that the accused be held at Langas police station until October 29, 2025, when the case is scheduled for mention.
