Ruth Odinga Vs Oburu Odinga
Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga has made it clear that there’s no animosity between her and her older brother, Oburu Odinga, who also leads the ODM party.
In a statement released on Monday, March 1, Ruth brushed off rumors suggesting she disrespected Oburu by staying neutral in the current party disputes.
She emphasized that it’s crucial for ODM to stay united and pointed out that having a different viewpoint from the Party Leader doesn’t equate to disrespect.
“How can calling for ‘wantam’ and ‘tutam’ supporters to unite and speak with one voice be seen as disrespectful?
“I’m an older woman. Honestly, where would I find the energy to clash with the Youth Leader? Those who say I’m at odds with Dr. Oburu are the true adversaries of ODM,” the Woman Rep remarked.
Ruth firmly stated that her relationship with her older brother was strong, and they had lengthy discussions about various topics beyond just the party.
She asserted that Oburu was the rightful leader of the ODM party and called on everyone within the party to show him the respect he deserves.
At the same time, she encouraged the party to bring young people into leadership roles, especially in light of the need to dissolve the ‘Linda Mwananchi’ and ‘Linda Ground’ factions.
“As I’ve always said, we need to ensure that youth voices are included in our party’s decision-making at all levels,” the MP emphasized.
The Kisumu Woma Representative stressed that a united ODM would have a stronger position when it comes to negotiating political alliances as they approach the 2027 elections.
She also mentioned that there’s still plenty of time to resolve internal conflicts and explore their options before committing to any pre-election agreements.
The Woman Rep was one of the few leaders in the ODM National Delegates Committee who stepped up to defend Secretary General Edwin Sifuna during his tough times.
Odinga has been quite firm about pushing forward with the NADCO report and the 10-point agenda that was agreed upon when they were setting up the broad-based government.
