Kibera Monster Caged for 20 Years
A Kibera court has sentenced a man to 20 years in prison after finding him guilty of defiling a 15-year-old girl. The judgment, delivered by Principal Magistrate Murage, brought closure to a case that has deeply disturbed the local community.
During the hearing, the prosecution, led by state counsel Michael Mutune, presented six witnesses who gave detailed and consistent accounts of how the accused committed the crime. Their testimonies painted a grim picture of betrayal and exploitation, showing how the man preyed on the young girl while her mother was away earning a living through casual jobs.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), the prosecution’s case was built carefully and supported by credible witness statements and medical reports. The ODPP commended the investigating officers and the prosecution team for ensuring that justice was served despite several challenges, including the accused fleeing during the trial.
Magistrate Murage, in her ruling, condemned the offender’s actions as both “cruel and calculated.” She noted that the victim was a minor who deserved protection and care, not exploitation. The court also heard that the accused, who had been released on bond during the trial, absconded in February 2024, forcing police to launch a search that eventually led to his re-arrest months later.
The magistrate emphasized that the 20-year sentence should serve as a stern warning to anyone who preys on vulnerable children, stressing that crimes of this nature leave lifelong scars on victims and their families.
“This court cannot overlook the suffering caused to the child,” she said. “The law must protect minors, and offenders must know that such acts will not go unpunished.”
The sentencing was welcomed by child rights advocates, who hailed it as a victory for justice and a reminder of the need for communities to remain vigilant in protecting minors from sexual predators.
With this ruling, the court reaffirmed its commitment to upholding justice and ensuring that those who exploit children face the full force of the law.
