It’s murder, not suicide
It has now come to light that a woman found dead outside her in-laws’ home in a Naivasha estate was actually murdered, which contradicts the earlier assumption that she had taken her own life.
A postmortem examination of Jane Wambui, 33, has confirmed that suicide is not the cause of her death.
The examination showed that Wambui, a mother of two, suffered a stab wound to the left side of her chest from a sharp object, which ultimately led to her demise.
Just last week, there were reports suggesting that she had committed suicide after a disagreement with her husband.
However, the post-mortem conducted at the Naivasha sub-county hospital has provided a different story. Her relatives are now demanding justice.
Naivasha DCIO Isaac Kiama mentioned that investigators have taken statements from her in-laws and husband, who were among the first to arrive at the scene.
“It was originally thought that the woman committed suicide, but the autopsy has proven otherwise. We are questioning some people over the incident,” he said.
The development unfolded just hours after a tragic incident where a 30-year-old woman was raped, murdered, and her body discarded along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.
Her body was discovered near Delamere Farm, about 5 kilometers from Naivasha Town, with early investigations suggesting that she was killed at a different location.
John Kinuthia, who chairs the Naivasha GBV cluster group, pointed out that femicide cases have been increasing in the area.
He mentioned that at least five women have been murdered in the past five months, which has sparked anxiety and fear among the residents of this lakeside town.
“We are extremely concerned about the growing number of murders targeting women, and we sincerely hope that those responsible for these horrific acts will be brought to justice,” he expressed.
In another incident, a police officer was tragically stabbed to death while responding to a distress call in Dandora, Nairobi, which has raised fresh concerns about the safety of the local community.
Layford Gitonga lost his life on August 2, 2025, while trying to save a man who was being attacked by a group of assailants.
Initial investigations led to the arrest of Dorine Veronica Odimbo on October 3 in the Makongeni area, while her co-accused, Sylvester Ooko Oduor, was taken into custody two days later.
