Eldoret Police Bust 500L Chang’aa
Police in Eldoret have apprehended two suspects and confiscated a vehicle that was carrying 500 liters of illegal brew.
This operation unfolded on Monday, September 1, 2025, after officers from the Eldoret Police Station got a tip-off about a car believed to be transporting chang’aa.
Under the leadership of the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), the team conducted a search and successfully intercepted a Toyota Corolla in the Asis area.
Upon searching the vehicle, they discovered chang’aa neatly packed in polythene pouches and plastic bottles.
“Acting on the information, the officers mounted a search operation and intercepted the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, in the Asis area. Upon searching, they discovered five hundred (500) litres of chang’aa, which was packed in polythene pouches and plastic bottles,” Police said in a statement.
Both people in the car have been arrested and are currently being held at the Eldoret Police Station as they wait to be brought before the court.
In a statement, the National Police Service mentioned that it will keep ramping up efforts to tackle the production and distribution of illegal brews.
“The Service remains committed to safeguarding the health, safety, and well-being of the public,” it noted.
The arrest follows an announcement from Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, who revealed the creation of a national multi-agency team tasked with conducting sting operations throughout the country.
This was shared during a media briefing in advance of the Jukwaa la Usalama Nyeri chapter.
The CS promised that there would be ongoing crackdowns until this issue is completely eradicated, not just in Central but also in other regions where establishments are operating with illegal licenses or none at all.
“We have agreed at the security meeting with the IG and the CEO of NACADA that we are going to establish a special multi-agency team that will include KEBS, KRA, among other agencies, to work together to ensure compliance,” revealed the CS.
He said the Multi-Agency Team will be coordinated from Nairobi, where the regional and county need support.
“Where we feel the need to reinforce, the national team will be called in to support this issue of alcohol in our country.”
