Suspect Claims to Be Ruto’s Son
A 19-year-old man was found inside the Parliament buildings in Nairobi on the night of August 7, 2025, claiming to be the son of President William Ruto. The young man, identified in court documents as Nelson Ibrahim Kidero, who also goes by Nelson Murithi, was reportedly discovered wandering around the Bunge Towers parking area without authorization.
According to the prosecution, Kidero entered the restricted parliamentary grounds without permission, an act that led to his arrest and subsequent arraignment in court. He faced charges of unlawful entry into parliamentary premises, contrary to Section 31(1)(a) and Section 31(2) of the Parliamentary Powers and Privileges Act, 2017.
When Kidero appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Mark Ekhubi, he admitted to the offense. The court, taking into consideration his young age and mental state, decided to release him under supervision rather than impose a harsher penalty. Magistrate Ekhubi ruled that Kidero should not commit a similar offense within the next year and placed him under the care of his uncle. The uncle was tasked with ensuring that the teenager receives proper medical attention and guidance.
During the hearing, Magistrate Ekhubi offered the young man some words of encouragement, suggesting he consider pursuing a career in law and perhaps becoming a magistrate one day. However, Kidero politely declined the suggestion, telling the court that his dream is to become a barista.
The magistrate also urged Kidero’s family to show more concern for his welfare. “Since this young man was brought before the court, efforts have been made to contact his family. Please tell his father to show more concern for his son,” he said.
Kidero’s uncle assured the court that he would take full responsibility for the teenager’s well-being and rehabilitation. The case has drawn public attention due to the young man’s strange claim of being related to the Head of State and his unusual presence inside one of Kenya’s most secure government buildings.
