Urgent: Black Box Missing After Githurai Plane Crash
Authorities are reaching out to the residents of Mwihoko, Githurai 45, asking them to help return an important box that was taken following the wreckage of an aircraft that crashed in the area.
Officials report that crowds quickly gathered at the crash site to get a closer look after the incident.
Amid the chaos, a vital box was reportedly removed from the aircraft.
This missing box, which is believed to hold essential flight data, is now the top priority for investigators.
“The box is important for understanding what exactly happened that led to the crash. We are appealing to whoever has it to return it immediately,” an official at the scene said.
The light aircraft that went down on August 7, identified as a Cessna Citation 560, was reportedly en route to Somalia.
Authorities have emphasized that keeping the black box from investigators could seriously impede the inquiry into what caused the crash, urging local residents to cooperate.
Residents of Mwihoko were also reminded that tampering with the missing black box or hiding any evidence related to the crash is illegal and could result in prosecution.
“We understand that people are curious and shocked, but this box needs to be in the hands of experts,” one official stressed.
The crash, which occurred in a residential area, raised alarm among locals, and so far, no official cause has been disclosed.
Initial reports suggest that there were two crew members and two medics on board the aircraft.
Videos from the scene captured the aircraft engulfed in flames, with onlookers keeping their distance.
Emergency responders, including military personnel and police, quickly arrived to secure the area and manage the crowd.
The incident, which took place near a military base, prompted a rapid response from nearby officers.
Githurai 45 Sub-county Police Commander Maurice Odanga confirmed the event, stating that aviation and security experts were on-site to conduct an investigation.
Officials wrapped up their appeal by highlighting the urgency of the situation, as the investigation is still ongoing and authorities continue their search.
