USIU-Africa Ushers in New Era with Fresh Leadership and Bold Vision for the Future
The United States International University Africa, known as USIU-Africa, has welcomed a new leadership team, ushering in an exciting chapter filled with visionary ideas, innovation, and a strong dedication to changing lives and communities through education.
Ambassador Dennis Awori has taken on the role of Chancellor, while Prof. Mwenda Ntarangwi steps in as the new Vice Chancellor.
The installation ceremony marked a new beginning for the university, highlighting its mission to foster proactive, inclusive, and responsive leadership that meets the ever-evolving needs of our world.
In his speech, Ambassador Awori underscored the university’s commitment to excellence, innovation, and making a difference in society. He stressed how crucial leadership, diversity, and hands-on education are in shaping the future of Africa.
“USIU-Africa is truly a pan-African university— a beacon of hope and a cradle of possibility, where minds are enriched, futures are shaped, and leadership is cultivated,” Awori stated.
He shared how honored he felt to take on the role of Chancellor, recognizing the university’s vibrant student community that spans the continent and its significance as a center of talent and ambition.
Awori also took a moment to acknowledge the outgoing leadership, especially his predecessor, Dr. Manu Chandaria, commending his invaluable contributions to the university’s growth, such as founding the Chandaria School of Business and mentoring countless students.
“His legacy has been instrumental in positioning USIU-Africa as a center of excellence,” he remarked.
Awori congratulated Prof. Ntarangwi on his new appointment, expressing his belief that under his leadership, the university would reach exciting new heights.
“His vision and leadership will undoubtedly elevate USIU-Africa to greater success. Together, we are committed to advancing a shared mission rooted in excellence, innovation, and integrity,” he said.
Professor Ntarangwi reiterated the core values of the university and highlighted how crucial lifelong learning is for navigating the ever-changing landscape of both our professional and personal lives.
“Lifelong learning prepares our students to remain adaptable, open to new ideas, technologies, and methodologies— essential in today’s fast-changing world,” he stated.
They pointed out the university’s strategic emphasis on emerging areas like Sustainability and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG). This highlights the need to prepare students to tackle pressing challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation, and social equity.
Awori stressed that universities should move beyond just passing on knowledge. Instead, they need to cultivate critical thinking, adaptability, and ethical leadership—skills that are essential in our fast-paced digital world, where artificial intelligence and rapid technological changes are the norm.
He also emphasized that education should be both practical and transformative, especially when it comes to addressing local issues like youth unemployment, food insecurity, and health crises.
“Our Innovation and Incubation Center, along with the Flagship Design Your Future Integrated Innovation Pipeline Program, are powerful platforms for nurturing student ideas into impactful ventures,” he concluded.
