Nexford University, a leading online institution accredited in the U.S., has teamed up with the Nairobi City Thunder (NCT), a team in the Kenya Premier League 2024 Championship, to help players further their education while they shine in their sports careers.

As part of this exciting partnership, the players will be awarded scholarships to pursue forward-thinking degree programs such as a Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Data Analytics (MSDA), Master of Science in Digital Transformation (MSDT), and Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA).

Fadl Al Tarzi, the CEO of Nexford University, shared that the university’s fully online and flexible learning model will allow these athletes to juggle their demanding training schedules with their studies. This way, they can acquire valuable business and digital skills while still competing at the top of their game.

“At Nexford, we believe in empowering individuals from all walks of life to play at the top of their game—whether on the court, the field, or in the boardroom. This partnership with Nairobi City Thunder is more than just an assist; it’s a game-changer. By equipping these champions with future-focused education, we’re helping them develop the skills to excel not only in sports but also in business, technology, and entrepreneurship,” Al Tarzi said.

He mentioned that honing business, leadership, and digital skills while staying involved in sports not only boosts financial stability but also paves the way for lasting success.

“By equipping Nairobi City Thunder players with future-focused education, Nexford University is ensuring they are prepared for life beyond the court,” Al Tarzi added.
Colin Rasmussen, the CEO of Nairobi City Thunder, emphasized that by providing athletes with access to quality and flexible education, they’re not just gearing them up for the next game, but also preparing them for life beyond basketball.

“It’s about building legacy, leadership, and long-term impact. Star players like Albert Odero and Tylor Okari have signed up for the Nexford courses and more have joined since. The energy has shifted there’s real buzz and motivation. Players are talking about their goals off the court with the same passion they bring to every game,” Rasmussen said.

Nexford University stands out as a top-notch online institution in the U.S., proudly accredited by the Commission for University Education through its Nexford Kenya branch.

This university works hand-in-hand with Kenyan employers to tailor its curriculum to meet the needs of the workforce, making sure that graduates are equipped with the skills that matter.

A study conducted with the Federation of Kenya Employers (FKE) revealed that 60% of Kenyan employers have a hard time finding talent in digital and business fields. By incorporating insights from employers, Nexford is dedicated to preparing both athletes and professionals to thrive in today’s ever-changing job market.
