President Ruto Promotes ADC Lengusuranga to Brigadier in Major KDF Leadership Reshuffle
President William Ruto has elevated his Aide-de-Camp (ADC), Colonel Fabian Lengusuranga, to the rank of Brigadier. This promotion is part of the recent leadership changes within the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), marking a significant step forward in the career of this close aide to the President.
Colonel Lengusuranga plays a crucial role as the President’s ADC, which means he is always by the Head of State’s side, especially during public events and ceremonial occasions.
A respected officer in the Kenya Army, Brigadier Lengusuranga comes from the KDF’s elite Special Forces unit, renowned for their top-notch tactical training and specialized military skills.
He stepped into the role of President Ruto’s Aide-de-Camp in October 2022, succeeding Brigadier Timothy Lekolool. Lekolool had previously held this position under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
In the meantime, Brigadier Timothy Lekolool, who served as Uhuru Kenyatta’s Aide-de-Camp, has been elevated to the rank of Major General and appointed as Senior Directing Staff at the National Defence College.
Lekolool, who made history as the first ADC from the Kenya Navy, was Uhuru’s ADC from 2018 until 2022, marking the end of Uhuru’s presidency.
During the transition, Lekolool made a symbolic gesture of loyalty by saluting and stepping behind President Ruto, where he briefly took on the role of his ADC until Lengusuranga stepped in to fill that position.
Once Lengusuranga took over, Lekolool was moved to the Department of Defence.
Lekolool, the son of the late Provincial Commissioner Francis Lekolool, is well-regarded not just for his military service but also for his philanthropic efforts.
As the Senior Defence Staff (SDS) at the National Defence College, which is Kenya’s top institution for training senior military and government leaders, Lekolool will take on the important role of mentoring and teaching senior officers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and allied nations about defence strategy, geopolitics, and national security.
He steps into the SDS role after Victor Mburu, who left to further his studies in national security.
These promotions are part of a broader military restructuring, which also saw President Ruto appoint Major General David Kipkemboi Ketter as the new Commander of the Kenya Army, taking over from Lt. Gen. David Tarus.
