Man fatally slashes wife in Murang’a
Police have detained a man suspected of brutally hacking his estranged wife to death in a tragic incident that took place in Kabati, Murang’a County.
According to the authorities, 35-year-old Pauline Warugu sadly succumbed to her injuries in the hospital after the attack on December 16 in the Riandegwa area.
At the time of the assault, she was with her mother, making their way to tend to their land when the attacker, who had reportedly been following her, struck.
He struck her on the head before fleeing the scene.
Warugu was quickly rushed to Kenol Hospital for treatment, but later had to be transferred to Murang’a General Hospital, where she ultimately lost her battle for life.
Residents managed to catch the suspect later on, and after giving him a beating, they handed him over to the police.
The woman’s body has been taken to the mortuary, awaiting an autopsy, while the suspect remains in custody, facing murder charges.
Police revealed that the woman had previously left the man’s home due to allegations of domestic violence.
In a separate incident, a herder was killed, and 31 head of cattle were stolen from a politician’s farm in Lolgorian, Narok County.
The herdsman’s body was discovered in a thicket, bearing multiple injuries, just hours after a group of attackers struck and made off with the cattle.
Authorities reported that the cows were driven away, and efforts to track them down are still ongoing.
The area has seen a troubling increase in cattle rustling, despite ongoing attempts to tackle the issue. This has led to tribal clashes that have displaced many residents.
Over the past two months, at least ten people have lost their lives in a series of attacks and retaliatory strikes.
Deputy Inspector General of Kenya Police, Eliud Lagat, stated that police are actively pursuing those responsible for the violence in the Angata Barrikoi area.
“We are identifying everyone involved in this menace and will be coming for them soon,” Lagat said on Thursday.
He also mentioned that additional security teams have been deployed to enhance safety and ensure that residents can enjoy a peaceful festive season, just like the rest of the country.
