Uhuru fires Kioni
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party has made some notable changes to its leadership, announcing Jeremiah Kioni as the new Deputy Party Leader.
In a statement released on Thursday, January 22, the party revealed that Richard Ole Kenta, a former Member of Parliament from Narok, will step in as the new Secretary General, taking over from Kioni.
Kioni will collaborate closely with Fred Matiang’i, the former Cabinet Secretary, who assumed the role of party deputy back in October 2025.
“The party calls upon all members, supporters, partners, and Kenyans of goodwill to accord Hon Kenta full cooperation and support as he undertakes this important and demanding responsibility,” the party stated.
Matiang’i has confirmed that the changes received the green light from the party’s National Executive Committee, which convened on Thursday morning.
Kenta first made his mark in parliament back in 2013 as a TNA candidate and went on to serve two consecutive terms before vying for the Narok county gubernatorial seat in the 2022 General Elections.
Matiang’i emphasized that Ole Kenta’s extensive experience in the political landscape of the country will play a crucial role in energizing the party, especially as they gear up for the much-anticipated 2027 General Elections.
“The NEC decided this morning to approve the proposal and appoint Ole Kenta as our new Secretary General. Ole Kenta is a very Solid and respected political player, and we are very grateful for the work that he has done,” Matiang’i said.
Recently approved appointments following the meeting include Zack Kinuthia stepping in as the Deputy Party Secretary General, Yassin Noor Haji taking on the role of National Organizing Secretary, and Vincent Mogaka Kimoki becoming the Chairperson.
Additionally, Dan Mwangi has been named the Executive Director, Kiembi Gitura will serve as the Director of Elections, Peter Kados is set to lead the MCA Caucus, and Saitoti Torome will represent the Jubilee Foundation in Public Policy.
This announcement comes just three months after the committee appointed Matiang’i as the deputy party leader, following the party’s endorsement of him as their presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election.
Other key leadership roles have also been filled, such as the Whip of the National Assembly, which will be taken on by Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama, and the Senate Whip, a position that will be filled by Senator James Lomenen.
“We have received and formally accepted Dr Fred Matiang’i’s application for his presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he carries our flag,” Kioni said on October 30, 2025.
“We have appointed Dr Fred Matiang’i as our Deputy Party Leader going forward,” he added.
