“My Life Is In Danger”, Governor Wamatangi
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has raised alarms about his safety, claiming that he was followed by a suspicious vehicle with three people inside. This unsettling experience has led him to call for increased security measures.
During a press conference on Tuesday, Wamatangi expressed his deep concerns about his safety, especially since this incident occurred just days after a significant reduction in his security detail.
He is now insisting that his security be strengthened to protect him from those he believes may have harmful intentions.
“They were trying to act like they were just going about their business, but I know they were keeping an eye on my movements. If there was something they needed to discuss with me, they could have approached me directly. This whole situation makes it clear to me that there was something more sinister at play with those who were following me,” the Governor stated.
Wamatangi plans to formally report this incident to the Inspector General of Police, urging for a thorough investigation.
“It’s crucial that I inform the IG about this, as I firmly believe and request that my security needs to be significantly enhanced. I don’t want to spread rumors, but I have a feeling that these individuals may not have my best interests at heart,” he added.
The Governor expressed that the current situation has left him feeling quite vulnerable, pointing out that only two security officers have been brought back after his guards were withdrawn last week.
“I’ve got two back, but today’s incident raises some serious concerns for me. Normally, I felt fine moving around without them, but now it’s definitely worrying,” Wamatangi remarked.
He emphasized the need for an urgent review of his security measures to tackle any possible threats.
“My security needs to be reassessed so we can address those threats while I stay personally alert,” he added.
Wamatangi’s troubles come just a week after the High Court ordered the freezing of his personal bank account, along with those of his wife, children, and ten other individuals, in connection with a Ksh.813 million corruption case.
The freeze came after his business premises near Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi were demolished, following an incident where they were vandalized early Wednesday morning.
Witnesses reported that police officers showed up around midnight, using teargas canisters and live ammunition to clear out crowds and those who were working before the demolitions began.
