An Mp Abducted
Protests erupted in Mwea town on Friday after the shocking abduction of their former Member of Parliament, Peter Gitau Njuguna, by individuals thought to be security officers.
Reports indicate that the former MP was at his home in Nakuru on Wednesday night when a Subaru and two ProBox vehicles pulled up outside his gate.
Gitau reached out for help from local police, who showed up but left after a quick chat with the men involved.
Even though his family reported the incident to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) both in Nakuru and at their main office, the former MP has still not been found.
His former constituents took to the streets on Friday, demanding his swift release, blocking roads, and chanting slogans that called for justice.
“Our former MP was taken. He was taken by unknown people, but we hear it is the DCI,” one protester stated.
The residents firmly believe that if the former legislator has done anything wrong, he should be arrested through the proper legal channels and given his constitutional rights.
“If Gitau has done something to harm the government or an individual, then he should be legally arrested and brought to court. Let’s settle this in court with our lawyers present. And if this is just a political issue, we won’t back down,” said another resident from Mwea.
The protesters voiced their frustration over the uncertainty surrounding Gitau’s whereabouts since his alleged abduction on January 14.
“At 2 am on January 14, Gitau was taken. Now, we have no idea where he is. We want him back,” another demonstrator expressed.
This incident has raised serious concerns about the rule of law and how arrests are carried out, with both the family and residents urging the relevant authorities to reveal the former MP’s location and the reasons behind his detention.
