Police are looking into a tragic incident involving a ten-year-old girl who sadly passed away from food poisoning after eating leftover githeri that her mother had brought home from a construction site in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Her 16-year-old brother was also hospitalized but is currently in stable condition after eating the same food, according to police reports.
The mother explained to the authorities that she had taken the leftover food from her workplace and served it to her children at home. Shortly after, both kids began to experience severe stomach pains and were rushed to the hospital, where the girl was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Her brother was admitted for treatment, and the girl’s body has been moved to the mortuary while they await an autopsy.
Police have visited the family’s home and collected food samples for further analysis.
In another incident, officials are investigating the death of 12 goats that drank water from a borehole in Kiliwehiri, Mandera County. Ten more goats are in critical condition following this event. A herder had taken the animals to the borehole, but when he returned home, they began to collapse fatally. Health and livestock officials have since visited the site and collected samples from both the deceased and sick goats for testing.
They have also warned locals against consuming the carcasses, as they may be toxic.
The carcasses have been disposed of while investigations continue, with initial findings suggesting water poisoning as a possible cause.
Meanwhile, in Kiritiri, Embu County, a 14-year-old boy tragically drowned in the Thiba River. He was a grade nine student at Machanga Primary School and had gone swimming with friends when the accident occurred.
The body was recovered from the water following the tragic events of January 11 and taken to the mortuary, according to police reports.
In Kathiani, Machakos County, authorities are looking into the case of Samuel Mutisya Kavita, a 65-year-old man whose body was discovered with severe cuts on his head and hands.
Police have launched a murder investigation in Iveti.
The body was located in a thicket, and the motive behind the murder remains unclear. Authorities mentioned that the body has been sent to the mortuary for an autopsy and further examination.
Meanwhile, in the Tunyai area of Tharaka Nithi County, a mob took justice into their own hands and lynched a suspect accused of theft. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Martin Mwiti, was reportedly known in the area as a habitual thief.
His body has also been moved to the mortuary for further procedures. Police confirmed that they have initiated murder investigations into this incident, which occurred on January 11.
Such occurrences have been increasing at an alarming rate, prompting calls for action to tackle this troubling trend. Police stated that these incidents are currently under investigation.
