Boys Mistakenly Placed Girls’ School
Two grade 10 students from Cardinal Otunga Boys High School in Mosocho town, Kisii County, have finally been redirected and admitted to the correct school after a mix-up placed them in a girls’ school in Bungoma.
In a statement to the press at Cardinal Otunga Boys High School, Deputy Principal Academics Albert Tani explained that the two students had mistakenly been enrolled at Cardinal Otunga Girls School in Bungoma County
“The successful review of the placement process is a plus because the pressure the parents had concerning the issue has already been sorted,” Tani explained.
During the event, Tani shared that out of the 82 teachers working for the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) at Cardinal Otunga High School, 72 had participated in a retooling program during the school holidays in preparation for the transition to senior school.
“We have enough facilities in the three pathways, and so far, almost 70% of those who have reported are under the STEM pathway,” pointed out the Deputy Principal Academics.
He mentioned that the school had been in touch with nearby Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions to make sure that the technical subjects lacking teachers were properly addressed.
In a separate conversation at Sameta High School in Gucha Sub County, Admissions Teacher Justus Mauti shared that they had reached out to the Ministry to look into the placement of some students who had received admission letters to the school, but whose information was missing from the portal.
Mauti, who also oversees sports, pointed out that some of their requests had been turned down and urged the Ministry to take another look and reconsider the students who had already enrolled at the school.
Evans Ondiba, the school’s Head of Department for Social Sciences, confirmed that their teachers have received the necessary training and are fully equipped to teach the grade 10 students.
