10 Killed in Nakuru-Eldoret Highway
Tragically, at least 10 people have lost their lives in a series of road accidents on the Kericho-Nyamira road, particularly in the Tombe Bw’arani area of Nyamira County, as well as on the bustling Nakuru-Eldoret Highway.
The Nyamira accident took place on the night of Saturday, December 13, involving a public service vehicle (PSV) coming from Nairobi and a trailer.
Reports indicate that some passengers, including two who were seated in the back of the PSV, sustained serious injuries but managed to survive.
Photos shared by Kenyans.co.ke reveal that one side of the PSV was severely damaged, while the trailer, which ended up blocking the road after the crash, appeared to have only minor damage.
After the incident, other drivers, police, and emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to evaluate what had happened and help the survivors.
In a different accident on Saturday evening, reports indicate that several individuals tragically lost their lives in a horrific road crash involving two trucks on the same route.
The collision took place when the two large commercial vehicles collided head-on in the Equator area of Nakuru County, resulting in one truck’s front end being completely wrecked. The other truck swerved off the road and tumbled down a steep embankment.
This accident also led to a significant traffic jam along the busy route, forcing some drivers to seek alternative paths.
As of the time this article was published, the exact number of fatalities had not been officially confirmed.
These accidents occurred just hours after the passing of former Cabinet Minister and Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo, who tragically died in a serious road accident in the Karai area of Naivasha.
Jirongo’s Mercedes-Benz reportedly tried to overtake some cars and ended up swerving into oncoming traffic. Tragically, he crashed into a 65-seater passenger bus, resulting in his death at the scene.
The bus driver recounted that Jirongo slammed into the bus after making an attempt to pass other vehicles caught in a traffic jam on that busy road.
“I was heading to Busia from Nairobi, the Mercedes did not give way, the driver of the Mercedes saw that there were vehicles on his route and decided to come my way, and that is what resulted in the accident,” the driver said.
