Kenyans Burn Ugandan Bus
A group of boda boda operators set a Mash Poa bus on fire after it was involved in a tragic accident.
This incident took place on the morning of Monday, December 22, at Salgaa along the Nakuru – Mau Summit road.
Sadly, the accident resulted in the death of a rider, which sparked outrage among other boda boda riders, leading them to torch the bus in response.
At the time of the accident, the Mash Poa bus was en route to Kampala, Uganda.
Photos and videos shared by Nairobileo.co.ke captured the bus engulfed in flames, with thick smoke rising into the sky.
“Bodaboda guys have today morning burned down a bus belonging to Mash Poa after an accident with a bodaboda at Salgaa, a few metres outside Salgaa police station,” Long Distance Drivers and Conductors Association (LoDDCA) said in a statement.
The Motorist Association has strongly condemned the burning of the bus and urged security agencies to take action against the boda boda operators responsible for the incident.
“Boda boda riders have torched a Mash Poa Bus after one of them collided with the Kampala-bound bus dying in the impact. This is so sad and unacceptable. DCI, NPS, and Kipchumba Murkomen make this the last vehicle to be torched by boda boda,” the association stated.
The incident took place just months after a different group of boda boda operators set a Super Metro bus ablaze following a tragic road accident on Thika Road.
In that earlier incident, a matatu had struck a motorcyclist, leading to a wave of anger among fellow riders who quickly banded together to set the bus on fire.
After the accident, Super Metro released a statement explaining that the bus was traveling downhill behind a tuk-tuk that was trying to change lanes when the collision happened.
Super Metro Limited expresses deep regret as we confirm a tragic accident that occurred on September 1, 2025, involving one of our buses, registration number KCZ358N, along Juja.
“While traveling downhill, the bus was following a tuk-tuk that attempted to change lanes. A motorbike rider, overtaking at high speed, swerved to avoid the tuk-tuk, struck a pavement, and fell. Tragically, the rider was fatally injured by the bus and passed away at the scene,” the statement read.
