Ruto to take over ODM
President William Ruto has once again shared his eagerness to collaborate with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party as the next general elections approach.
While speaking on Wednesday, December 17, in Migori, the Head of State openly stated his goal to forge a new partnership with the ODM for forming a government in 2027.
During the 5th Piny Luo Festival, Ruto emphasized that the party needs to come together and build a strong support base to have real influence during negotiations.
He pointed out that the leadership should concentrate on strategizing and fortifying the ODM, cautioning that any divisions among members could undermine the party’s strength.
“I am calling on the ODM party to strategise itself and remain strong. We want a strong ODM so that we can plan Kenyan affairs together,” Ruto said.
He went on to add, “If you make ODM stronger, I will also make my party UDA stronger so that we can meet and form a government through an agreement.”
In his speech, Ruto took a moment to reflect on his time working alongside the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga in ODM, emphasizing how much Odinga influenced his political journey. The Head of State shared that Odinga not only helped him advance in politics but also played a vital role in shaping his path as Kenya’s fifth president.
“I was a member of ODM, but God made me even more successful so that I can meet with ODM again. Raila is the one who taught us politics. I was his best student, and he immensely contributed to my presidency,” Ruto revealed.
Lately, it seems like Ruto has been changing his political tune when it comes to Raila’s ODM. After Odinga’s passing, Ruto has stepped up as a guardian of Raila’s legacy, taking an active role in discussing the party’s future.
Just a month ago, Ruto expressed his admiration for ODM, calling it a resilient party. He pointed out that even after Raila’s death, the party has managed to stay strong and rise above the usual personal, regional, and tribal politics.
While speaking at the ODM Founders’ dinner in Mombasa on November 16, Ruto emphasized that robust national political parties are essential for a thriving democracy.
