Nominated Member of Parliament Denar Joseph Hamisi passed away on the morning of Saturday, December 6, 2025, at around 7:00 am. His death was confirmed in an official statement released by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang’ula, who described the loss as a painful moment for Parliament, his constituents, and the entire country. The specific circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been disclosed, and the family has asked for privacy as they mourn.

Hamisi became a member of the National Assembly after being nominated by the Amani National Congress (ANC) following the 2022 General Election. During his time in Parliament, he was an active member of the Departmental Committee on Sports and Culture, where he worked to support the growth of creative talent and the development of sporting activities across the country. He also served on the Select Committee on National Cohesion and Equal Opportunities, a role in which he consistently pushed for greater unity, fairness, and inclusivity in public policy.

In his tribute, Speaker Wetang’ula praised Hamisi’s humility, strong work ethic, and unwavering commitment to public service. He noted that Hamisi carried out his duties with sincerity and focus, leaving a positive mark on colleagues, staff, and members of the public who interacted with him. Wetang’ula extended heartfelt condolences on behalf of the National Assembly, expressing sympathy to Hamisi’s family, friends, and all who had benefited from his leadership.

To ensure that the late MP receives an honourable send-off, Wetang’ula has appointed a team of Members of Parliament, led by Deputy Leader of the Majority Owen Baya, to work closely with the family in coordinating funeral arrangements.

Hamisi was born in 1969 in Kinango and pursued his education with determination. He attended Mombasa Baptist High School between 1984 and 1989 before advancing to higher studies. In 2000, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management from the United States International University (USIU). He later earned a Master of International Business Administration in 2002 and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Nairobi in 2006.

Before entering Parliament, Hamisi built an accomplished career in public service and corporate leadership. His roles included serving as Director of the Coast Development Authority, Commissioner at the Electoral Commission of Kenya, Director at the Kenya Airports Authority, as well as holding senior positions at the Kenya National Accreditation Services and council memberships at both the University of Nairobi and Moi University.

His legacy is one of dedication, professionalism, and a genuine desire to contribute to national progress.
