Street Horror: Woman Stabbed Viciously
A woman is fighting for her life after she was brutally stabbed in the neck during what police are describing as an unprovoked attack in Birmingham city centre on Friday night.
The shocking incident unfolded just before 9 PM GMT on Smallbrook Queensway, an area known for its heavy foot traffic and proximity to major landmarks such as the Bullring shopping centre and New Street railway station.
According to West Midlands Police, the victim, believed to be in her 30s, suffered a serious neck wound and was rushed to hospital, where she remains in critical condition. Emergency services arrived quickly at the scene, which was immediately sealed off as police launched an intensive investigation.
A man in his 20s was arrested near the location shortly after the attack and is currently being held on suspicion of attempted murder. Detectives say that early evidence suggests the assault was unprovoked, and there is no indication that the victim and suspect knew each other.
Detective Inspector James Nix of West Midlands Police stated, “We believe this was an unprovoked attack and are working to understand the motive behind it. Our officers will remain in the area throughout the day to continue inquiries and offer reassurance to the public.”
Police have confirmed they are not seeking any other suspects at this time. However, investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone with mobile phone footage from the area to come forward. Members of the public with information are urged to call 101 and reference the incident.
A police tent has been erected on the pavement outside the Bullring, and St Martin’s Queensway heading west remains closed between Moor Street Queensway and Smallbrook Queensway. Buses have been diverted through Moor Street, and the cordon is expected to stay in place for most of the day, according to the BBC.
The attack has left local residents and shoppers shaken, with many expressing fear over the growing number of violent incidents occurring in busy public spaces across Birmingham.
