7 Days Of Mourning Raila
President William Ruto has announced a week of national mourning in light of the passing of Raila Odinga.
Raila sadly passed away on the morning of Wednesday, October 15, after experiencing a cardiac arrest while out for a morning walk in India.
“In tribute to the life and legacy of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, and on behalf of a grateful nation, I, William Ruto, in my capacity as President of the Republic of Kenya, hereby declare that we will observe a period of national mourning starting today and lasting until sunset on the day of his burial,” the President stated in an official announcement.
Throughout this mourning period, flags will be flown at half-mast at State House, all Kenyan diplomatic missions, public buildings, and grounds, as well as at military bases, posts, and stations on naval vessels within any territory recognized as the Republic of Kenya.
The Indian government has stepped up to cover the costs of bringing former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s body back to Kenya, as shared by President Ruto.
He mentioned that a special team, made up of key government officials and led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, will be heading to India right away to ensure the repatriation goes smoothly.
“The government of India, responding to a request from the Kenyan government, has agreed to help with the repatriation of our former Prime Minister’s remains,” he said.
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is going to be honored with a State Funeral, as announced by President William Ruto.
The President confirmed that he will receive military honors along with the full State protocols.
“Prime Minister Raila Odinga will be given a State Funeral, complete with military honors and all the necessary State protocols being observed,” Ruto stated.
