It is with deep sorrow that Kenyans have learned of the passing of former Citizen TV and NTV journalist Kimani Mbugua, a talented young media personality whose career inspired many.

Reports indicate that Kimani passed away on October 14, 2025, though the exact cause of his death has not yet been confirmed by his family. His death comes after a long and difficult battle with mental health challenges, which he had spoken about openly in recent years.

Friends and colleagues describe Kimani as a bright, driven, and charismatic individual who had an undeniable passion for storytelling. Despite his young age, he made a lasting impact in Kenya’s media industry through his creative work, confidence on camera, and ability to connect with audiences on serious and light-hearted issues alike.

Kimani’s journey in media began remarkably early. At just 19 years old, he joined the Nation Media Group, where he worked as a presenter on both Nation FM and NTV. His unique style and sharp intellect quickly set him apart from his peers. A few years later, he transitioned to Citizen TV, one of the country’s leading broadcasters, where he continued to grow his career and solidify his reputation as one of Kenya’s most promising young journalists.

However, behind the public success, Kimani faced private struggles. He had been open about his experience living with bipolar disorder, and in previous interviews, he shared his journey through therapy and rehabilitation centers as he sought recovery and understanding. His courage in speaking candidly about mental health helped spark important conversations in Kenya, where such topics often remain stigmatized.

At only 29 years old, Kimani’s passing is a heartbreaking loss not only to the media fraternity but to the many Kenyans who followed his work and admired his honesty. Tributes have continued to pour in across social media, with many remembering him as a gifted storyteller, a warm friend, and a symbol of resilience who left the world far too soon.
