PS Oluga: 100 Injured at Kasarani
The government has announced that nearly 100 individuals sought medical attention for injuries they sustained during the unrest at the public viewing of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
In an interview on Friday, October 17, 2025, following Raila’s requiem mass, the Medical Services Principal Secretary, Ouma Oluga, shared that these individuals were able to receive care, even though there were reports of four fatalities.
The PS made an appeal to Kenyans, urging them to keep the peace as they prepare for Raila’s burial on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
He emphasized that the government has implemented all the necessary measures to address any medical emergencies that may arise.
“We would like to request Kenyans to keep calm and maintain order. We are all mourning; we should maintain peace,” he said.
“Let us not be aggressive in our efforts. Yesterday, there was chaos at Kasarani, and people got injured. Approximately 100 people received treatment. Please, we do not want people to get injured again.
During the protracted body viewing at Kasarani, chaos erupted when the police lobbed tear gas at the thousands of people who had gathered there.
In several viral video clips circulating online, you can clearly see panicked Kenyans frantically rushing out of the stadium, coughing and covering their faces as thick clouds of tear gas filled the air.
The chaos erupted as the massive crowd scrambled in all directions while police worked to clear the area. Within just a few minutes, the once-packed stadium was nearly empty.
According to reports, the chaos began when some Kenyans in the stadium started throwing stones.
More clips showed individuals believed to be police officers attacking the crowd with sticks in an attempt to drive them away from the stadium.
