Nine Months, No Burial
The body of Luka Koriri Kimoso, one of the late Uasin Gishu billionaire Francis Kimoso’s sons who passed away nine months ago, is still awaiting burial due to a dispute over where he should be laid to rest, as revealed in an Eldoret court. During his testimony before Justice Reuben Nyakundi, Morris Kimoso, the deceased’s eldest son, explained that he halted the burial plans after other family members insisted on burying Luka on his land. Currently, the body is being kept at the Iten County Referral Hospital morgue while Kimoso’s children are entangled in legal battles over their father’s estate.
Morris stated that his late father had left him a 150-acre parcel of land, as outlined in the disputed will, which is why he opposed his sibling’s plans to bury Luka there. He proposed that his brother be laid to rest on a different piece of land, far from his own, but some family members rejected this suggestion, leading to the ongoing conflict over the burial site. According to Morris, a portion of the siblings insisted that the deceased, who was a father of five, should be buried on his own property, which they claim belongs to him.
Margaret Kimoso, the tycoon’s first-born daughter, urged the Judge to help them resolve the burial dispute so they can give their late brother a proper send-off. She pointed out in court that their brother had previously refused to allow them to bury the deceased on a part of the extensive land where he had lived with his family for over a decade before his passing on January 14, 2025.
The late Kimoso, who died 13 years ago at the age of 67, was married to two wives, both of whom have since passed away, and they had a total of 18 children together. He left behind a substantial estate valued at over Ksh. 1.5 billion, spread across Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet counties. The court has instructed the conflicting parties to submit their arguments, with the next mention of the case scheduled for October 23, 2025.
