Fourteen Souls Silenced Forever
The family of 14 who tragically lost their lives in a road accident last Sunday is now in the process of making funeral and burial arrangements, with the national government stepping in to offer support.
First Lady Rachel Ruto joined the community in expressing condolences to the grieving family in Murang’a, while the Ministry of Health is preparing to send advisors to assist those impacted by the tragedy.
Just three days after the community was hit with the heartbreaking news of the accident, they gathered at their local church, searching for comfort and understanding in the wake of such a profound loss that they are still trying to process.
Citizen TV recently visited a family grappling with profound sorrow, sharing their grief and anguish with dignitaries who came together for the first mass honoring the 14 lives lost, all from the same family. The weight of this tragedy is becoming increasingly evident.
The family members were en route to visit a sick aunt in Nakuru when disaster struck, claiming the lives of 14 relatives.
“This is the time as a family that you have to come together, more than any other time. I leave this service having learned something even as a nation — what if we loved each other as a member of one family?” Rachael Ruto stated.
Nominated MP Sabina Chege added, “Kuna watoto kumi na wawili ambao wamebaki hapa, hawana mama, hawana grandmother or a grandfather, hawana mahali wataenda.”
The community is now left with cherished memories of their neighbors and loved ones, alongside the heavy emotional and financial burden of arranging their burials. This is a weight that both leaders and community members have started to tackle together.
The service also helped raise more than Ksh.4 million that will be used in the funerals.
“Once the funeral is over the burden will be real, because everyone will have gone back to their homes. Let us keep supporting them,” said Rachel.
Murang’a Woman Representative Betty Maina on her part said, “Wale tumebaki itabidi tukuje hapa tufanye mchango tusaidie hawa watoto.”
The government, through the Ministry of Health, is stepping in to offer counseling services for the family members who are left behind.
Meanwhile, the family is making arrangements for the burials of the fourteen individuals who have passed away. They will be laid to rest in four different locations: Kahiga, Kangui, Gacharage in Murang’a, and Naivasha.
