Budalangi Man Kills Wife
Police in Budalangi are holding a 38-year-old man who allegedly killed his wife during a violent domestic quarrel in the Njiru area on Tuesday night.
The suspect, identified as Ibrahim Akongo Okanga, is said to have attacked his wife, Eunice Wanjiku, using a kitchen knife after a heated argument escalated inside their home. The confrontation, which occurred at around 8 p.m., ended tragically when Wanjiku sustained deep stab wounds that claimed her life on the spot.
Confirming the incident, Njiru Sub-County Police Commander John Owuoth said officers rushed to the scene after receiving distress calls from neighbors. “The suspect stabbed the wife twice with a kitchen knife. She died instantly. The suspect has since been arrested and remains in custody as investigations continue,” Owuoth stated.
The killing has shocked residents of Njiru and Budalangi at large, where the couple was well known. Neighbors described the two as a fairly ordinary family, making the sudden turn of events both heartbreaking and alarming. Many in the community have expressed disbelief, with some calling for greater awareness around domestic conflicts and the need for timely interventions before disputes escalate into violence.
Authorities have linked the case to the rising trend of domestic and gender-based violence across the country. Police are urging couples and families to adopt peaceful methods of resolving disagreements and to seek counseling or community mediation when conflicts become overwhelming.
“This unfortunate case is a painful reminder that violence is never the solution,” Owuoth added. “We encourage members of the public to speak out and seek help when they find themselves in hostile situations at home.”
The suspect is expected to be arraigned in court once investigations are finalized. Meanwhile, Wanjiku’s body has been taken to a local morgue pending postmortem examination.
The incident adds to growing concerns about the prevalence of intimate partner violence in Kenya, sparking renewed calls from activists, religious leaders, and community groups for stronger preventive measures and support systems for victims.
