Kalonzo’s Wiper Party Rebrands as Wiper Patriotic Front, Jubilee Reshuffles Leadership
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s party has officially rebranded itself, changing its name from Wiper Democratic Movement to Wiper Patriotic Front, as announced in a Kenya Gazette notice from the Registrar of Political Parties.
During a visit to Ukambani last Friday, Musyoka emphasized that this rebranding is crucial for the party’s future, as it aims to attract a younger audience and give the party a fresh perspective.
“The party now has a new face – Wiper is going national. The new name will be Wiper Patriotic Front (WPF) so that our Gen Z are fully included,” Kalonzo said during a stop last Friday in Emali, Makueni County.
He also encouraged young people to take the chance to sign up as party members, emphasizing that the party’s name embodies the patriotic spirit shown by Gen-Z during the 2024 protests against the Finance Bill.
Meanwhile, the Jubilee Party has revamped its leadership structure, bringing in fresh faces to oversee important roles within the organization.
This shift marks the end of years of internal disputes, during which some party officials loyal to former president Uhuru Kenyatta went to court to prevent his removal as party leader.
However, Kenyatta has managed to keep his position, alongside other leaders like Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni, Deputy National Chairperson David Murathe, and Wanja Maina, the National Chair for the League of Persons with Disabilities, all of whom have also avoided being ousted.
The party has welcomed some new members, including Beatrice Gambo, who steps in as the Deputy Party Leader (Strategy), taking over from Jimmy Angwenyi, who was let go. Joseph Manje has taken on the role of Deputy Party Leader (Outreach), succeeding Naomi Shabaan, the previous office holder.
In a similar vein, Yassin Noor has replaced Joshua Kutuny as Deputy Secretary-General, and Pauline Njoroge has taken over the Deputy National Organizing Secretary position from Mutava Musyimi.
Former Kieni legislator Kanini Kega, who served as the party’s National Director for elections, was also removed, and the party has yet to announce his successor.
