Eldoret Church Leader Charged
A shocking case has unfolded in Eldoret after a church leader was brought before the court to face serious allegations of defilement. The case, which is being closely followed by residents and members of the faith community, has raised concern and stirred public debate about the role of trusted figures in society.
Ronald Kiprop Ewambok, a lay leader attached to the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) in Uasin Gishu County, was arraigned before Eldoret Senior Principal Magistrate Peter Ireri. Ewambok was charged under Section 8 (1) of the Sexual Offences Act No. 3 of 2006, which deals with defilement. He, however, denied all the charges leveled against him.
According to the prosecution, Ewambok is accused of sodomizing his own biological son in two separate periods—first in December 2019 and later again in 2023. The alleged incidents took place at their home in Kamulat village, located in Turbo sub-county. The allegations have deeply unsettled the community, particularly because they involve a parent and a religious leader, both roles that carry a high level of trust.
The state has already lined up six key witnesses, including the minor who is said to be the victim, to testify during the trial. These witnesses are expected to shed more light on the case and provide evidence to support the charges brought against the accused.
During the court session, Magistrate Ireri ordered that Ewambok be released on a bond of Ksh. 200,000, with one surety of an equal amount. The ruling has sparked mixed reactions, with some locals questioning the leniency of the bond terms, while others stress the importance of upholding the principle of innocence until proven guilty.
The case has now been scheduled for mention on September 15, 2025. As the trial progresses, the story is likely to continue attracting attention, not only from the local community but also from across the country, as Kenyans wait to see how justice will be served in this sensitive matter.
