Spotify’s New DJ Voice Feature Lets You Control Your Playlist with Just a Few Words
Spotify has just given the aux cord back to its users—well, sort of.
In a big update that rolled out on Tuesday, Spotify Premium subscribers in over 60 markets can now make voice requests directly to the platform’s AI-driven DJ feature. That’s right: your playlist just became a lot more responsive.
This change adds a fresh layer of interactivity to the personalized DJ experience that launched last year, transforming passive listening into an engaging, real-time musical adventure.
“Listeners asked for more ways to interact with DJ and enjoy more control over their listening sessions – and now you can!” said Spotify in the announcement.
To make a request, all you have to do is hop over to the search tab on Spotify, type in ‘DJ’, hit play—and just like that, your personal music maestro is ready to roll.
Feeling the need to shake off the blues with some lively tracks? Or maybe you’re in the mood for those indie deep cuts that perfectly capture your mysterious main character vibe? Just press and hold the DJ button, wait for a beep, and let your musical wishes come to life.
Spotify mentions that the DJ is powered by AI, combined with global editorial expertise, to deliver a curated mix that’s as unique as your ever-changing moods.
The system already has a sense of what you’ve been grooving to—and now it can switch things up at your command.
Spotify has some fun voice prompts you can try out, like:
“Play me some electronic beats for my midday run”
“Surprise me with some indie tracks I’ve never heard before”
“Play music that feels like the soundtrack to my life”
“Play modern country songs for my cowboy phase”
And if you’re not sure what to choose, just hit the DJ button to jump to the next musical adventure—no need to say a word.
This new feature shows how Spotify is really focusing on personalization and AI, making music discovery feel more intuitive and, well, more human.
