Two Kenyans are in serious condition after being shot during a clash at the Namanga border crossing on Thursday, October 30, 2025.

The chaos unfolded as some people tried to cross into Tanzania while police were working to manage the situation.

The two victims were quickly taken to Kajiado County Referral Hospital for urgent medical care after the shooting incident.

This unrest unfolded as Tanzania, Kenya’s Swahili-speaking neighbor, began its vote-counting day following the general elections that took place on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

The elections were fraught with tension and sparked widespread protests, especially among the youth in Tanzania, who rallied against President Samia Suluhu’s administration, claiming her government was suppressing democracy and silencing opposing voices.

A video that was shared shows the chaotic aftermath of the shooting, with injured men being rushed into an ambulance just a few meters from the border, while onlookers gathered to take in the scene.

One of the victims seemed to be bleeding heavily, with a bandage wrapped around his arm that was quickly becoming soaked with blood

Just hours after Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo issued a stern warning to Kenyans thinking about causing trouble along the Kenya-Tanzania border, unrest flared up at the Namanga entry point.

This warning followed incidents where some Kenyans were denied entry into Tanzania to participate in protests related to the ongoing elections in that country.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, October 30, 2025, Omollo made it clear that the government will not stand for any illegal activities at the border. He urged citizens to abide by the law when near entry points.

He also reassured everyone that Kenyan authorities are more than capable of managing the situation and keeping peace along the border we share.

“I think the point is anything that is outside the law on the Kenyan side, we will definitely do what the law allows us to do,” Omollo said. He also appealed to the public not to take the law into their own hands. “And also just to take the opportunity to appeal to anyone not to take the law into their hands and do what is expected. Our officers are competent enough to deal with the situation,” he added.
