Raila Odinga Road In Njiru
Residents of Njiru in the Kasarani Constituency have decided to honor the opposition leader by naming a three-kilometre road “Raila Odinga Road.”
This gesture acknowledges his enduring struggle for democracy and his significant contributions to the lives of everyday Kenyans.
The road that links Njiru to Mwiki has been an essential route for the local community, and they believe that renaming it after Raila Odinga serves as a meaningful tribute to a man they regard as a true champion of justice and the rights of the people.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, Njiru Residents Association Chairman, Choke Goricha, said the decision was made out of deep respect for the Azimio leader, describing him as a unifying figure who has always stood with the people.
“Kwa sababu ya heshima ya huyo kiongozi, bila ubaguzi na vile alikuwa anashikilia wananchi, hawa wananchi wamejitokeza siku ya leo waweze kushuhudia jina yake ikiwekwa kwa hii njia,” Goricha said.
Residents who gathered for the unveiling ceremony expressed their hope that the road would become a lasting tribute to Raila’s legacy, serving as a reminder of his significant role in Kenya’s democratic journey.
Local resident Alfred Ochudho urged the government to enhance the road’s condition, ensuring it stands as a fitting monument to Raila Odinga.
“Ningependa kuambia viongozi wetu, hasa gavana na rais William Samoei Ruto, atusaidie hiyo barabara itengenezwe ndio ikuwe makumbusho mzuri kwa Baba, na isaidie watu wengi wakaaji wa hapa,” Ochudho said.
Another resident, Victor Mujukua, said naming the road was the first step, adding that plans are underway to erect a statue of Raila Odinga in Njiru as a permanent reminder of his influence and sacrifice.
“Tumeoneleea tukuwe na Barabara moja ambayo siku zote tutatukuwa. Tunafikiria nayo au tunakumbuka nayo shujaa wetu Raila Odinga, na ndio tunasema tunaomba wakaaji wote wa sehemu hii ya Kangundo Road, especially Njiru na Chokaa, tutakuwa bado na mkutano mkubwa. Tuweke statue kubwa hata kama ni Njiru ili tukuwe tunakumbuka Raila Amollo Odinga,” he stated.
