Crowds Gather at Kasarani Stadium
Crowds are gathering at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani, eagerly awaiting the public viewing of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s body.
Originally, the viewing was set to happen at the Parliament buildings, but the plans changed when a massive wave of enthusiastic supporters showed up.
As soon as it was officially announced that the public viewing would now take place at Kasarani, those who had been waiting around the city center and Parliament quickly shifted their course.
“Due to the surging number of mourners, the viewing of the body of HE Hon. Raila Amolo Odinga has been moved from Parliament buildings to Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.
“Members of the public are advised to proceed to Kasarani where they shall have enough space and time to view the body,” ODM Director of Communications Philip Etale announced.
Several prominent leaders have gathered at the venue, eagerly awaiting the arrival of Raila’s body.
President William Ruto is also anticipated to join in for the viewing.
The procession is currently making its way to Kasarani from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, with supporters accompanying them as they mourn their leader.
Plans to transport the body from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Lee Funeral Home for final preparations, before it heads to Parliament Buildings for public viewing, were scrapped due to rising crowd disturbances.
Several high profile leaders have arrived at the venue, waiting for the arrival of Raila’s body.
President William Ruto is also expected to take part in the viewing.
The procession is on the way to Kasarani from the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, accompanied by supporters who are mourning their leader.
Initial arrangements to move the body from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Lee Funeral Home for final preparations before being taken to Parliament Buildings for public viewing were abandoned amid escalating crowd trouble.
The late Prime Minister will be honored with a state funeral, as announced by Ruto. A national committee, co-chaired by Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga, will handle all the arrangements.
According to Raila’s Will, he expressed a desire to be laid to rest within 72 hours of his passing.
