Woman Allegedly Steals Man’s Ksh335K
A man shared a story on Thursday about how a woman he met for the first time at a club in Nairobi’s Lavington area allegedly made off with Ksh.335,000 after a night out.
The woman in question, Lora Odero, has been charged with stealing the money from James Kiaritha.
According to reports, she is said to have committed the crime on March 15, 2025, at an apartment complex in Riverside by fraudulently transferring funds from the complainant’s mobile account.
While testifying in court, James Mwangi Kiaritha, a 34-year-old businessman, shared the story of how he first met the accused during a night out that kicked off at a bar in Lavington.
He mentioned that around 2:00 a.m., he decided to head to another bar at Lavington Mall, where he encountered two women named Maya and Lora.
The three of them enjoyed the night together, partying until about 6:30 a.m. before they made their way to a coffee shop.
Kiaritha recounted that he later offered to give Lora a ride back to her place at the apartments in Riverside. When they arrived, she welcomed him into her apartment and gave him a little tour.
However, once he stepped inside, Kiaritha said his memory became a bit “hazy,” and he couldn’t remember what happened next.
“It was my first time dropping anyone,” he said. “When I woke up, I was fully dressed, and my phone was beside me.”
Kiaritha shared with the court that it was Lora who had woken him up, insisting she needed to hurry to a pharmacy for some medicine. He then drove her there in his car, and after that, they went their separate ways.
Later that same morning, he tried to make a payment using his mobile money wallet, only to find out that his account was low on funds.
Feeling uneasy, he reached out to his bank, which informed him that there had been several unauthorized transactions from his mobile banking account.
The court learned that Kiaritha then checked his mobile money statements, which showed multiple transactions to a phone number linked to the accused. These transactions took place on March 15, 2025, at 9:51 a.m., 9:52 a.m., and 11:30 a.m.
When the statements were presented in court, Kiaritha admitted he couldn’t explain the transfers. “I can’t explain any transactions to Lora because I don’t send money to people,” he stated.
He also mentioned that all his bank accounts were protected with similar PINs and that this was the first time he had met the accused.
