Another City Worker Faces Charges
The pressure is mounting on government officials as the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has confirmed charges against yet another employee of the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) for using fake academic credentials to land a job.
On Wednesday, October 8, a former Registry Clerk at Nairobi Water faced charges for fraudulently presenting a bogus university degree to unlawfully secure her position.
The commission revealed that this former clerk submitted a forged Bachelor of Commerce degree certificate, falsely claiming it was from the University of Nairobi, to get hired by the water company.
Following a thorough investigation, it was found that the certificate was indeed a forgery, and she managed to collect a total of Ksh7.8 million in salaries during her time at the company.
The case file was handed over to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), who gave the green light for three criminal charges against her.
She now faces charges of forgery, uttering a false document, and deceiving a principal—serious offences that fall under the Penal Code and the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act.
After being processed at the Integrity Centre Police station, the suspect appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Hon. Ondieki at the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, where she pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
She was granted a cash bail of Ksh80,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh1 million, with one surety of the same amount. The case is scheduled for mention on October 23.
Her arrest came just a day after another former NCWSC official was charged for using a fake Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) certificate to land a job at the same institution.
In that instance, the suspect faced similar charges, including uttering a false document, forgery, and deceiving a principal after presenting a forged KCSE certificate that was supposedly issued by Bishop Ndingi High School.
After denying all charges, he was released on a cash bail of Ksh100,000 or a bond of Ksh1 million.
Just days earlier, on October 4, another public officer was convicted for submitting a forged Diploma in Sports Science Management, allegedly from JKUAT, to secure employment.
