Ruto wears Sh3M Watch
It’s no secret that President William Ruto has a taste for the finer things in life. Just a quick look at his wrist reveals that he’s always in sync with multiple time zones.
As a seasoned traveler who pays close attention to time, the Head of State deserves nothing less than a watch like the Rolex GMT-Master II, a classic that has been around for over forty years.
This understated elegance was on full display as Ruto made his way through Turkana, effortlessly maintaining his polished appearance even under the blazing sun of Lodwar.
Dressed in a classic WSR-style blue Kaunda suit, complete with black Oxfords and a fedora adorned with a matching blue ribbon, Ruto truly embodied the look.
While the outfit was undeniably sharp, it was his luxury wristwatch that really caught everyone’s eye, radiating a subtle yet impressive elegance.
With its unique two-tone design, the watch sparkled in the desert light, making a striking statement about his refined taste.
On its official website, Rolex proudly refers to the GMT-Master II as “the ultimate cosmopolitan watch,” a timepiece crafted to bridge distances and time zones for people everywhere.
Nestled within a 40mm Oyster case is the impressive Calibre 3285, a self-winding mechanical movement that showcases the very best of Rolex’s engineering prowess.
The bezel, made from a unique high-tech ceramic, is not only virtually scratchproof but also resistant to the fading effects of ultraviolet light.
Rolex is particularly renowned for its stunning bi-colour bezels, which beautifully blend two distinct shades to symbolize the hours of day and night. These colors are expertly fused into a single piece of ceramic through a sophisticated chemical process, showcasing the brand’s exceptional technical skill.
However, it’s not just the looks that make this watch stand out.
It features a solid 70-hour power reserve, allowing you to set it down for an entire weekend and still find it ticking away come Monday morning. With its certification as a “Superlative Chronometer,” this movement ensures remarkable precision, keeping time to within an impressive two seconds each day.
The watch comes with a special 24-hour hand and a two-tone, 24-hour graduated rotatable bezel, making it easy for the wearer to keep track of a second time zone in addition to the regular time. You can adjust the local hour hand in one-hour increments, and you can do this independently of the other hands without having to stop the watch.
“At a glance, the wearer can see the time in their current location and in another part of the world, giving them a strengthened connection with their own personal ‘somewhere out there’, be it a special place or memory, or plans for a future journey,” Rolex writes.
In 2025, Rolex unveiled a fresh take on one of their classic models, introducing a Cerachrom dial—their very first dial crafted entirely from ceramic.
As per various watch listing sites, the GMT-Master II is currently priced between Sh1.7 million and Sh3 million, depending on its age and condition.
For example, EWWatches has a 2025 model listed at Sh2.8 million (€19,000), while a pre-owned version on eBay is going for around Sh1.7 million.
During his tour in Turkana, President Ruto was seen sporting a luxurious Sh3 million Rolex GMT Master II watch.
This isn’t the first time Ruto has been spotted in a high-end timepiece.
Back in July, he was seen wearing an antique Rolex Daytona valued at over Sh6 million while visiting the Maasai Mara National Park for the annual wildebeest migration.
Dressed in jungle-green game attire and boots, the President completed his look with the Daytona—a watch synonymous with wealth, prestige, and a refined sense of style.
