Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo Dies
Former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo has died following a tragic road accident at the Karai area in Naivasha, sending shockwaves across the country and plunging the political fraternity into mourning.
According to preliminary reports, Jirongo was driving himself to his rural home in Lugari when his vehicle was involved in a fatal head-on collision with a Climax Coach bus along the busy Nairobi–Nakuru Highway. The accident occurred in the early hours of the morning, a time when visibility is often low and the highway experiences a mix of long-distance buses and private vehicles.
Naivasha DCIO Isaac Kiama confirmed the incident, stating that the former legislator died on the spot at around 3 am due to the impact of the crash. Emergency responders and police officers were quickly dispatched to the scene after the accident was reported. Upon arrival, officers secured the area to prevent further incidents and began preliminary investigations to establish the circumstances that led to the collision.
Police said the body was later moved to Naivasha Sub-County Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination. The postmortem is expected to provide more details on the cause of death as investigations continue. Both vehicles involved in the accident were towed to the police station to allow forensic experts to examine them as part of the ongoing probe.
Cyrus Jirongo was a well-known political figure who served as the Member of Parliament for Lugari and played a significant role in Kenya’s political landscape. During his time in office, he was known for his outspoken nature and his involvement in national politics, which earned him both admirers and critics. News of his sudden death has drawn condolences from leaders, colleagues, and residents of Lugari, many of whom have described him as a bold and influential leader.
