GSU Officer Electrocuted to Death in Juja
A police officer from the elite Recce Squad of the General Service Unit tragically lost his life after being electrocuted while washing his bicycle at their camp in Mugutha, Juja, Kiambu County.
Constable Benedict Oduori was reportedly using an electric washing machine to clean his bike at the Kimbo camp when the unfortunate incident took place on Saturday, October 25, 2025.
According to police reports, his colleagues witnessed him collapse during the cleaning process and rushed to help him, but sadly, their attempts were in vain. He passed away from his injuries while receiving medical attention.
Afterward, his body was taken to the mortuary, where an autopsy revealed that he had suffered severe burns due to electrocution.
Authorities mentioned that his family was present during the postmortem examination.
An investigation into the incident has been initiated. His fellow officers remembered Oduori as a diligent and devoted officer who was truly passionate about his work.
Recce officers are regarded as some of the most skilled members of the National Police Service, often called upon for special and high-risk operations throughout the country.
In Homa Bay County, police are also looking into the death of a 29-year-old woman named Mercy Achieng Onyango, whose body was discovered inside a friend’s house in Kendu Bay.
Police stated that the deceased had spent Sunday at the residence where her body was later found.
The cause of death has not yet been determined, and her body has been taken to the mortuary for a postmortem examination and further investigation.
In the Nyatike area of Migori County, a tragic incident unfolded when a 30-year-old man named Fredrick Omondi was discovered dead near a gold mining shaft.
According to the police, his body showed signs of a fractured right thigh, a deep cut on his head, and a broken left leg. Initial reports suggest that Omondi might have accidentally fallen into the mining shaft. Fellow miners managed to retrieve his body before notifying the authorities.
The body has since been taken to the mortuary for an autopsy.
Law enforcement officials pointed out that such accidents are all too common in gold mining regions, where pleas for improved safety measures often go ignored.
In a different incident, a 12-year-old herder suffered serious injuries from an explosive device in Kamanga Hills, Samburu County.
The boy reportedly stepped on the device while tending to his livestock, causing an explosion that resulted in injuries to his head, stomach, and knees.
Police reported that he was quickly rushed to the hospital in critical condition. It’s believed that the explosive was left behind by security teams during previous training exercises.
Authorities have collected the remnants of the device for forensic analysis.
