Lorry Rams Into Boda Operators Killing 5
Tragically, at least five people have lost their lives, and several others are facing serious injuries after a devastating accident in Keroka town on the Keroka-Masimba road in Kisii County.
The incident took place on Monday evening around 7 pm when a speeding lorry loaded with molasses lost control, veering off the road and crashing into boda boda operators.
In the aftermath of the crash, a multi-agency team quickly arrived on the scene to assist in rescuing those trapped beneath the wreckage.
According to Richard Kipkemoi, the traffic officer for Kisii County, many individuals suffered injuries and were swiftly taken to the Keroka Sub-County hospital for urgent medical care.
Recently shared footage of the accident revealed a severely damaged lorry tipped over on the roadside, with several twisted motorcycles scattered inside a trench.
The video also captured a large crowd that had gathered around the scene, while police and local disaster management teams worked together to assist the victims.
This road crash brought traffic to a standstill along the busy route connecting Kisii and Nyamira counties, forcing drivers to find alternative paths as others struggled to get through the congestion.
Kisii traffic police took action by cordoning off the area to allow emergency responders to clear the wreckage, while investigations began to determine what caused the crash.
In the meantime, the accident in Keroka adds to the alarming number of road incidents reported across the country in the past week, with at least 17 lives lost in road accidents throughout Kenya in just the last 72 hours.
Just a day prior, six family members tragically lost their lives when their matatu lost control and plunged into the Kiama River in Gatanga, Murang’a County.
According to the police, the family was returning from Ndia Village in Kariara ward, Gatanga Constituency, where they had attended a dowry payment ceremony.
While six people died at the scene, others sustained injuries and were quickly taken to Kirwara and Murang’a Level 5 Hospitals. The police have since initiated an investigation into the incident.
