Maurice loyalty even to Raila’s Body
In a touching display of loyalty, Maurice Ogeta, the former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s bodyguard, was seen walking alongside the Spartan Kenyan Air Force One, which was transporting his late boss’s body, all while military officials stood guard nearby.
Ogeta made the journey from Embakasi Airbase, where the body was airlifted to Kisumu, under the vigilant watch of a military helicopter.
After stepping off the plane, he was instantly recognizable in his signature black shades, reminiscent of his days providing security for Raila Odinga, and dressed head to toe in black.
He was seen strolling around the Kenyan Air Force One, glancing from side to side with his hands clasped behind his back as the team prepared to offload the body. He was accompanied by several other military officials.
Maurice Ogeta was in India alongside Raila, who tragically passed away there. He was visibly moved, receiving comfort from the Kenyan delegation that had come to bring Raila’s body back home.
On Friday, October 18, 2025, he was also seen in a heartfelt moment during the public viewing in Parliament.
He was known for his calm demeanor and served as Raila’s last line of defense, but in that moment, he couldn’t hold back his emotions and looked utterly defeated, even as he shook hands with President William Ruto.
Raila’s remains have just arrived at Kisumu International Airport and will soon be transported on a gun carrier to Mamboleo Stadium, where the public will have a chance to pay their respects.
As the former prime minister touched down, a water cannon salute greeted him, with the Spartan Kenyan Air Force One gliding gracefully beneath the shimmering water arch.
This tradition is typically reserved for those in the aviation community, especially when they retire or when a new airline is launched. However, after the president declared that the former prime minister would receive a state funeral with full military honors, this honor was also extended to him.
Raila’s remains will be laid to rest in Bondo at Kang’o ka Jaramogi, the same place where his parents were buried.
