Security Tight at Raila’s Opoda Farm
A significant security presence has been set up at the home of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga in Opoda, Bondo, as preparations ramp up for his burial on Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Officers are stationed throughout the expansive compound to maintain order and ensure safety as the nation gets ready to bid farewell to one of its most revered leaders.
What was once a peaceful homestead has transformed into a fortified area, with security personnel monitoring every corner and managing the flow of people in and out of the property.
By the evening of Friday, October 17, 2025, the main gate to Opoda Farm was still shut tight, allowing entry only for accredited mourners and officials.
Officers were busy checking vehicles and confirming entry passes, while others patrolled the area to keep an eye on things.
This increased security came in response to earlier incidents during the week when large crowds had gathered at the homestead, making it tough to manage the flow of mourners and ensure everyone’s safety.
On that Friday, the atmosphere felt much more controlled and organized, as teams on the ground worked diligently to make sure the burial went off without a hitch.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo on Friday, October 17, 2025, confirmed that the government, in collaboration with the ODM organising committee, has put in place comprehensive security measures for the ceremony.
“We have made the necessary arrangements with the ODM team and security officers to ensure that all security protocols are observed. We also request mourners to maintain peace and be orderly to allow a smooth process,” said PS Omollo.
The security plan is a collaborative effort involving the National Police Service, local administration, and the event’s organizing team. Traffic officers are on the ground to handle the expected surge of vehicles heading to Bondo for the state-sanctioned burial.
At Opoda Farm, tents and designated seating areas have been arranged, with officers working closely with event organizers to ensure smooth crowd movement.
As the nation prepares for the burial on Sunday, October 19, 2025, the atmosphere in Bondo is both solemn and peaceful.
Locals are gathering near the homestead, lighting candles and sharing stories about Raila Odinga’s legacy, showcasing the deep emotional bond the community has with their beloved leader.
