Balance Lost in Equality
Media personality Mwalimu Rachel recently shared her thoughts on the role of women in the workforce, suggesting that they weren’t meant to work as hard as they do. She believes that life’s circumstances have pushed women into roles traditionally held by men.
During a discussion about gender and work on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, she emphasized that women are inherently different and that the demands of modern life have compelled them to take on responsibilities that don’t align with their natural design.
“Biologically, psychologically, spiritually, any LY you can think of, women were not made to work hard. We were not made to work hard. Circumstances have forced us to take up this quite masculine role,” she said.
She explained that while women were meant to achieve and be creative, society has pushed them into competing in spaces that drain them. “We were meant to achieve, yes, but we were meant to be creatives. I keep on telling you, life is very spiritual. Uki learn hizi vitu utaelewa,” she said.
Mwalimu Rachel expressed her thoughts on the feminist movement, noting that while the quest for equal rights started with good intentions, it has sometimes gone too far. She believes this shift has disrupted the natural balance between men and women. According to her, what began as a fight for women’s dignity and fairness has evolved into an extreme push that has pushed women to adopt more masculine traits.
“I still tell my auntie until today, mlienda sana. You were not meant to push that to such an extreme of equal rights and for us to now be the men in the workforce and everything,” she said.
According to her, women were looking for decency and fairness, not to shoulder all the daily struggles that men face in the name of equality. “We wanted decency, but they went too far. They really overdid it,” she added.
Mwalimu Rachel’s statement shines a light on her belief that women hold a unique spiritual and creative role that deserves respect from society. She pointed out that the challenges of life, particularly economic pressures, have pushed women into tough responsibilities that clash with their ‘true nature.’
Her remarks spark a vital discussion about finding the right balance between gender equality and traditional roles, as well as the emotional and physical strain that comes from trying to meet expectations that might not resonate with one’s authentic self.
