Shalkido Dies After Crash
Tragically, Gengetone artist Kevin Mburu Kinyanjui, known as Shalkido, passed away while receiving treatment after a devastating road accident on Thika Road early on Sunday, October 5.
He was involved in a collision between Githurai and Carwash, just before reaching Roysambu, and sadly succumbed to his injuries after being declared brain-dead at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH).
The heartbreaking news of his death was shared by comedian Oga Obinna, who had been closely monitoring Shalkido’s condition since the accident.
According to reports, first responders who got to the scene just after the crash discovered Shalkido lying on the roadside with serious injuries. They quickly provided first aid before transporting him to KUTRRH, where he was later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
The responders mentioned that the accident took place in the early morning hours when the roads were fairly clear.
“There were no witnesses because it was boda boda riders who found him lying on the road. They stopped and called for rescue, who then dispatched us at about 4:42 am,” a responder said.
Obinna later took to social media to share the details of the accident, mentioning that he had a conversation with Shalkido’s father and confirmed that the artist was in critical condition at the hospital.
He shared that it was quite a challenge to get accurate medical information at first, but eventually, the doctors on duty opened up about the musician’s injuries.
“He has internal bleeding in the brain. It is in a lot of places, and so it is also swollen, meaning that it is inoperable, and they cannot do anything about it.
“The main concern is the brain; the neurosurgeon saw him, and there is nothing they can do for now. They said it is very severe,” he explained
Obinna shared how surreal the whole situation felt, remembering that he had just been with Shalkido right before the tragic accident happened.
In his video, he expressed his gratitude to the first responders for their quick actions and urged drivers to be more careful on the roads, especially during those late-night hours when visibility can be really poor.
Shalkido’s passing is yet another heartbreaking loss for Kenya’s entertainment scene.
Just in July, comedian Zakaria Kariuki, better known as KK Mwenyewe and celebrated for his spot-on impersonations of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, also left us.
Reports indicate that KK Mwenyewe died at Kiambu Level 4 Hospital after a brief illness.
Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah was one of the first public figures to honor the young comedian, commending his bravery in using humor to bring people together and educate them.
“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Zakaria Kariuki, popularly known as Mr. KK Mwenyewe, a young and talented comedian whose voice resonated with the spirit of a generation.
“Through satire and art, Mr. KK courageously held a mirror to society, using humor not to divide, but to awaken, educate, and unite. His ability to capture the political moment with sharp wit and authenticity was both refreshing and powerful,” he said.
Omtatah expressed that Kenya has not just lost a comedian, but a courageous patriot as well. He extended his heartfelt condolences to KK’s family and friends during this difficult time.
“Kenya has lost not just a comedian, but a cultural commentator and a brave young patriot. My heartfelt condolences go out to his family, friends, and the entire creative community. May his soul rest in peace, and may his light continue to inspire courage and creativity in those he leaves behind,” he concluded.
