TUK Lecturer Killed Over Land Dispute
Tragically, Professor Thomas Onyango Mboya lost his life due to a land dispute in Mbita, Homa Bay County.
Mboya, who taught at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK), was brutally attacked and killed by two young men.
The conflict over land began when some of Mboya’s neighbors reportedly encroached on his property in Kakrigu village.
The university lecturer decided to bring in the area chief and a land surveyor to help clarify the boundaries of his property.
However, before the chief and the surveyor arrived, Professor Mboya and his father made their way to the disputed land.
Upon arriving in the contested area, two young men armed with pangas launched an attack on Mboya and his father. Tragically, Mboya suffered severe head injuries and died instantly, while his father also sustained injuries during the assault.
Peter Mutiso, the Deputy Sub-County Commissioner of Mbita, reported that the attackers fled the scene after committing this horrific act.
In response, police have initiated an investigation and are actively searching for the two suspects. Mboya’s body has been taken to the MED 25 Kirindo mortuary in Homa Bay for preservation.
Meanwhile, his father was quickly transported to Mbita sub-county Hospital for treatment and is currently in stable condition.
Millie Odhiambo, the Member of Parliament for Mbita constituency, expressed her outrage over Mboya’s killing, calling it a tragic event. The ODM MP urged security agencies to ensure that anyone involved in the professor’s death is held accountable.
“The murder of Professor Thomas Mboya of Rusinga Island is unfortunate. Violence never sorts out issues,” said Odhiambo.
She continued, “May the killer and any persons who may have aided or abetted in his death be brought to book.”
