Mystery as Body Found Hanging in Kirinyaga
Police in Kirinyaga County are investigating a deeply unsettling incident after a man’s body was discovered hanging from a tree in a bushy area near Ndomba village in the Mwea East sub-county. The shocking discovery was made earlier this week, sending waves of fear and sorrow through the local community.
According to Joseph Kariuki, a village elder from Ndomba, the body was discovered by the deceased’s own brother. The man had gone to inspect a strange, unpleasant smell that was lingering near his land, which borders the thick bush.
“He noticed a foul smell and went to check. That’s when he found the body dangling from a tree,” Kariuki explained. “He was understandably shaken and rushed to inform me. I then contacted the area chief in Kutus so the authorities could take over.”
Local residents were left disturbed, not only by the grisly nature of the discovery but also because this is not the first time such an incident has occurred in the area. Catherine Wangui, a long-time resident of the village, recalled a previous case.
“There was a time a headless body was found in this very same bush,” Wangui said. “That person was later identified as a man from Ciagini in Mwea West sub-county.”
Following the latest incident, police officers from Wang’uru arrived at the scene and transported the body to Kerugoya Mortuary for further investigation. According to Kutus Location Chief Nancy Gichuki, the man has not yet been identified.
“From the state of the body, it appears it had been there for at least a week,” she stated.
While the cause of death is still under investigation, some residents are already suspecting foul play. Many believe the man may have been killed elsewhere and his body dumped in the bush to stage the scene.
“This bush has become a crime scene,” said local resident Evan Muriithi, expressing the growing concern shared by many in the community.
