Suspect Arrested in Shocking Kenyatta National Hospital Murders
The main suspect in the shocking murders of two patients at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has been taken into custody.
As reported by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the individual, named Kennedy Kalombotole, was arrested in connection with the death of Edward Maingi Ndegwa.
“Kalombotole’s arrest follows the brutal murder of Edward Maingi Ndegwa on July 17, 2025. Ndegwa was a patient admitted in Ward 7B, Group C (Male), on July 11, 2025,” the DCI stated.
The police have identified Kalombotole as the main suspect in the murder of Gilbert Kinyua Muthoni, who was tragically killed in Ward 7C back in February of this year.
“Following the incident, a case file was compiled and submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP). However, after review, the ODPP directed the Investigating Officer to conduct further inquiries to strengthen the prosecution’s case,” the DCI noted.
It seems that preliminary investigations have revealed that Kennedy Kalombotole was admitted to the facility on December 1, 2024.
Further updates indicate that a cleaner, while doing routine checks on Thursday, spotted blood seeping from the patient’s neck.
At exactly 2 p.m. on Thursday, a shocking discovery was made in Ward 7B at KNH—Ndegwa was found dead.
The DCI reported that when investigators arrived at the scene, they discovered slippers with blood trails leading from Ndegwa’s bedside to a nearby toilet, and then to a side room where the suspect was being held.
“In the room, investigators recovered a pair of blue slippers and a blood-stained bedsheet,” the DCI said.
A knife, which is thought to be the murder weapon, was discovered wrapped in gloves and has been sent off to the National Forensic Laboratory for analysis.
“Kalombotole is currently in custody, undergoing processing pending arraignment,” police stated.
